Pathfinder: Ultimate Combat Playtest Round 2

The next round of the Pathfinder Ultimate Combat playtest began today. The materials include a re-worked version of the Gunslinger which is now a stand alone class. It is documented in an 11-page PDF.

I have not done more that an intial once over. It looks like there have been improvements made. I would have to play one before I could speak to how fun/playable the class will be. I could see it as a cool character in the right type of game.

The document can be downloaded at http://paizo.com/pathfinderRPG/v5748btpy8j5e.

I have also added a link to my Pathfinder web page at https://sites.google.com/site/zombiehomepage/Home/zombie-s-d-d-pathfinder-page.

  1. At a glance:

Randy's argument about Small weapons is even more valid for firearms. A Deringer and a .45 revolver use the same sized bullet, but by these rules the Deringer would do less.

I see that they addressed the issue about the starting value of the gear, but now it looks broken the other way. They get a gun only they can use, and no ammo? I may have missed something but as it stands now a gunslinger cant afford much more than 10 shots to start.

  3. They can make their own ammo. The Gunsmith feat (which they get as a bonus) allows them to make bullets, pellets, and black powder for a cost in raw materials equal to 10% of the price. That means 1 GP for blackpowder and 1 SP for a bullet. Up to a days work for 1000 GP worth of ammo. They can also craft firearms at have price. That seems to be much more affordable as a character.

  4. Well that's better. Now it's only broken if you go to an area where guns are common enough to create a market. Theoretically one day of work = 500gp... if youre in the right market.
